Video clip: Kay thinks that even today some funders may assume that a person working part-time is not a serious scientist.

You said funding agencies don’t understand it [part-time working], can you explain what you meant?

Well, I think very often they think part-time means less commitment and that’s not what it means and I think people are becoming more used to this idea but certainly ten years ago, if you worked part-time, then you weren’t a serious scientist and that absolutely isn’t true.

Do you think sometimes that even that applies today?

I think it can, yes.
