Video clip: Fran thinks that Athena SWAN has really changed people’s attitudes and has affected many aspects of the department, such as how committees are structured.
Were you heavily involved in the Athena SWAN application for this department?
Yes I was, yes. Yes. And it’s been a really, very positive process because I think initially there was some scepticism about you know was this was really required and, you know, was it worth the work but I think as people went through the process it’s really changed people’s attitudes, and it’s something where the sort of Athena SWAN philosophy and approach is applied to every aspect of what the department does.
How it’s organised. How committees are structured and I think it’s really put this on the table in a much more overt way than was before and I think it’s a really, really good thing.
