Video clip: Jamie has been surrounded by inspiring women, including her mother, a woman at Tufts University and one of her current supervisors.

Have you had good female role models over the years?

I would say I have, yes, I think for me, obviously I think my mother’s a great female role model. She’s a successful woman in academia and I think she’s a great mother, so, she is a great mother. And then also the woman who led the Community Health department when I was at Tufts [University] for me was a really, I didn’t think about it at the time, but for me was a really huge part of my academic development. And she was really passionate about what she did and I think she was passionate about it for the right reasons and still made, you never saw her under tremendous amounts of stress, which was a useful thing to witness. You know, stressful things would happen but she’d been in academia long enough that she just kind of took them in her stride and sorted them out, or at least that’s what it seemed like to me. So I think she’s been a great role model and now that I’ve come to the department, one of my supervisors is a woman. She’s very powerful. She’s incredibly good at expressing herself and so in that sense I really aspire to be like that. And yeah, so I think I have been surrounded by women who are quite, quite inspiring really.
